My Chalkboard Wall (more adventures in DIY)

I started another small project in our kitchen to go with our new kitchen cabinets. I was inspired by this post over at Shanty 2 Chic to put up some chalkboard paint on our walls. Mine’s probably not quite as pretty and I definitely don’t take the same quality of photos but I thought it turned out pretty well.

It was also a great beginner project to use my K5 Kreg Jig which I recently purchased and had not put to any use yet.  This thing is super  cool. I’ve seen it used a million times on the DIY blogs, but hadn’t ever used one. Basically you just drop the piece of wood into the clamps, line the drill up at the appropriate level, and BAM, hidden holes to screw everything together.

After getting the holes drilled in all 4 pieces of wood, some quick work on the garage floor had everything connected.

Meanwhile Caitlin had marked out the space for the frame and was putting up the chalkboard paint. This stuff is very cool. It goes right on like normal paint, but you can write on it.

I got to work in the garage painting the frame with some primer and then the same paint we used on the kitchen.

Viola, a framed out chalkboard that we can use for seasons greetings, to-do lists, or whatever comes to mind. This is a great beginner project that can be done in an afternoon. I’m not anywhere on Mr. 1500’s level, but I’m doing what I can.
