Brandon Sanderson: Stormlight Archive

Adam Books

I don’t plan to spend a lot of time reviewing fiction, particularly the sci-fi or fantasy genre. However, every once in a while I enjoy doing some fun, easy reading in some of my favorite types of books from my childhood and teenage years.

I always loved Robert Jordan‘s, Wheel of Time Series, and unfortunately he passed to soon to finish them himself. Brandon Sanderson stepped in to the thankless role of completing a series. This isn’t much upside for most authors because it’s not your IP. The best case scenario is you meet expectations and it’s still remembered as the original authors series. Worst case, you disappoint rabid fans and your hated forever for ruining the series even if you did your best to honor the author.
I think he did a fantastic job, so I’ve been following his original work ever since. Over the Thanksgiving holiday I finished Book 1 and Book 2 of the Stormlight Archive series. I have to say, if you enjoyed Tolkien and Robert Jordan, you can’t go wrong with the books. The characters are engaging, the world building is relatively original, and the pace is fun. If you enjoy fantasy, give these a try.
